Why support POPL?

POPL is the longest running conference on programming languages and allied areas. Many of the key elements of modern programming language design, semantics, implementation and analysis can trace their roots to ideas first published in POPL.

By contributing to POPL, industrial and institutional supporters publicly demonstrate their commitment to high quality research in an area critical to modern software engineering. In addition, their generosity makes it possible for students from all over the world to attend the conference. There, these students will meet luminaries in the field and see inspiring talks from fellow students as well as senior researchers in both academia and industry.

POPL also hosts a wide variety of affiliated events including VMCAI (the symposium on Verification, Model Checking and Abstract Interpretation) as well as a number of other specialized workshops and tutorials. In addition, POPL is co-located with PLMW, the Programming Languages Mentoring Workshop, one of the most successful draws for programming languages students in the PL community. Each year, hundreds of students attend, and after soaking up such events, they return home inspired to pursue research in program analysis, theory, design and implementation, and with the confidence that exciting future careers in this area await them.
